Teaser Trailer

07. The Sunny SideFor our capstone project I was approached by director Sam Kilpatrick to produce a short documentary on Toronto-based artist Alfred Engerer.
Alfred’s artistic works span decades, and his mediums include glass art and photography.
It’s not an easy task to distill one life story into a single project. We found focus in Alfred’s work as a glass artist and exploration of Toronto’s dying arts scene, as evidenced by the demolition of his studio space in the West End to accommodate the development of yet another condominium.
For more information on The Sunny Side please visit our website www.thesunnysidedoc.com or follow us on Instagram @thesunnysidedoc.

06. You, Me + NatalieInterfacing with technology is a recurring theme in my works. In considering our embedded relationship with tech, I wanted to explore the consequences of such deep personal integration in this horror-inspired short about a jealous AI that interferes with a couple’s relationship.
This project was an unforgettable learning experience as I was able to safely write, direct, and produce a short film in the uncertain, early stages of the pandemic. It pushed me to adapt my production experience to an entirely new context.
Completing school online meant running a virtual production office out of my bedroom! This included casting calls + auditions, location scouting, drafting floor plans, budgets, schedules, post-production coordination, as well as on-set safety including COVID screenings.

05. Crip the ScriptFor our documentary unit project, I teamed up with director Lucia Linares to produce this short documentary on theatre performer and disability activist Ophira Calof.
On the day of our scheduled studio shoot an essential component of Ophira’s mobility device malfunctioned, which made safe travel impossible.
We took inspiration from how other outlets including news media had adapted during the pandemic to successfully shoot the interview remotely instead.

Notes1 This project explores navigating accessibility in arts spaces2 The title comes from Ophira’s initiative Crip the Script, which raises awareness of how inclusivity in the arts can be baked-in from the development stage rather than being treated as an afterthought3 Full documentary available online soon

04. TechnophonicThis project was originally concieved as an in-person audio/visual installation, but facing a pandemic we decided to pitch this as a VR proof of concept instead. The goal was for the participant to continuously see new screens wherever they looked popping up on a loop.
Second-screening is a commonplace practice to describe our fractured focus and need for constant stimulation while we’re already consuming media.
Our intent was to create a claustrophobic experience to simulate the never-ending feed scrolling that became our main information gateway during the early stages and uncertainty of the pandemic.

Notes1 Inspired by an art installation set piece in season 2 episode 3 of Girls and the overwhelming experience of Chantal Ackerman’s installation NOW2 Screens connect or comfort us with their content, and we wanted to explore the idea of too much of a good thing3 Headphones and fullscreen recommended

03. Musicless Music VideoAll original audio was stripped from the video except for an a cappella vocal track, and then we layered in soundscapes and effects for ambience.
We initially had plans to record all foley on the campus soundstage, but we had to pivot and use location sound when we went into lockdown Spring 2020 and were not able to access campus resources.
The final result might not have included wind if not for the pandemic, but I got to live my backup dancer fantasy recording ADR to a video of trained choreographers and had fun regardless!
Notes1 Focus for this assignment was audio editing and mixing, foley, and using sound effect libraries2 Made in collaboration with Joseph Gonzales3 Features vocals and the video for Kiezsa’s smash hit Hideaway

02. Comics for AllOur team successfully planned and executed an interview segment after studying techniques and theory in our second year.
This interview was shot on location at the Silver Snail comic book shop in downtown Toronto and features co-owner Brian Hamelin.
Brian discusses what sets his shop apart from other competing comic book stores in the city, as well as inclusivity within the comic book fan community.

Notes1 This was our first major project to incorporate a paper edit, where an interview transcript is used as a foundation for the initial edit 2 The assignment required demonstration of a three-point lighting set up as well as incorporation of b-roll

01. Blood TypeIn 2010 I was denied the opportunity to donate at a blood drive due to homophobic stigma in the eligibility questionnaire, and I wrote a short piece to help process my experience.
During my first year at Humber College I adapted it to the screen using found horror film footage to explore how pop culture can be reduced to visual shorthand in emotional communication.
I strongly believe media has the ability to inspire and inform perspectives, which is why I chose to adapt and share this particular experience facing outdated policies.

	Notes

1 Content Advisory: Discussion and depiction of needles2 Visually I was inspired by the romanticized portrayal of the male form in the music video for Charlie XCX’s Boys, and the dreaminess of Annie Lennox’s song No More I Love You’s 3 Features clips from Requiem for a Dream, Saw II, The Walking Dead, The Wizard of Oz, and Trainspotting

Everyone has a story // let me help you share it

I'm a Toronto-based filmmaker and media producer, as well as a recent graduate from Humber’s Film and Media Production program. I was drawn to the film industry because I’m passionate about how media can shape how people understand both themselves and others.

It takes quite a few considerations to get creative projects off the ground - and I'm here to help you through them! I've studied and trained in a wide variety of roles in the filmmaking process, and have a special interest in production management and directing.

If there's a story you need help telling, contact me down below and let's figure it out! I look forward to hearing from you.

1 I had a fair bit of musical theatre and performing Shakespeare in the park as a kid. From a young age I learned the hard work and satisfaction that comes from putting on a show for others.
2 I grew up in an area North of Toronto called Muskoka, but was born in the East coast province of New Brunswick. I’ve now lived in Toronto for nearly ten years.
