Watch Blood Type on YouTube
In 2010 I was denied the opportunity to donate at a blood drive due to homophobic stigma in the eligibility questionnaire, and I wrote a short piece to help process my experience.
During my first year at Humber College I adapted it to the screen using found horror film footage to explore how pop culture can be reduced to visual shorthand in emotional communication.
I strongly believe media has the ability to inspire and inform perspectives, which is why I chose to adapt and share this particular experience facing outdated policies.

Notes
1 Content Advisory: Discussion and depiction of needles
2 Visually I was inspired by the romanticized portrayal of the male form in the music video for Charlie XCX’s Boys, and the dreaminess of Annie Lennox’s song No More I Love You’s
3 Features clips from Requiem for a Dream, Saw II, The Walking Dead, The Wizard of Oz, and Trainspotting
